UFC Bantamweight Brian Bowles will have more than just his ugly TKO loss to George Roop to answer for, following UFC 160 the former WEC champion has been busted for elevated testosterone level without a therapeutic use exemption.
Bowles has had a string of injuries during his UFC stint, and has compiled a 2-2 record while under the UFC. Until losing his BW WEC title to Dominick Cruz, Bowles was on an eight fight tear-including his shock KO of Miguel Torres.
The NSAC limits fighters to a 6-1 testosterone to epitestosterone ratio, Bowles scored 20-1. Kieth Kizer will be handing down a likely suspension and hefty fine to Bowles on Monday.
So what has happened to Bowles’ career? He joined the UFC and beat Damacio Page and Takeya Mizugaki before losing by guillotine to Urijah Faber. His most recent loss is his second on the bounce and now this? I hope to see him back to form soon, but an inevitable suspension and fine from the athletic commission will surely see Bowles out for about 9 months minimum.
We are starting to see this trend of fighters using PED’s emerging at a rapid rate, the question remains: Are the commissions and the UFC going to keep punishing fighters, or are they actually going to try and find a prevention for the steroid epidemic?
