Breaking: Conor McGregor Returns Against Donald Cerrone At Welterweight

Conor McGregor

It is all but official — Conor McGregor will be returning to the Octagon in 2020 to face Donald Cerrone.

The news was confirmed by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto on Thursday as McGregor has signed his part of the deal to face Cerrone. In addition, his representatives add that he has signed a new exclusive deal with the promotion.

The fight will headline UFC 246 which takes place January 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor previously claimed he would be returning to compete on that card.

“”Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go,” UFC president Dana White told ESPN.

Cerrone has since reacted to the news as well by wishing fans a happy Thanksgiving:

Most interestingly, the fight will take place at welterweight rather than lightweight. McGregor, of course, fought at welterweight twice in 2016 during his bouts with Nate Diaz. Cerrone, on the other hand, recently made the move down from welterweight to lightweight earlier this year.

Regardless, it will be the first time in 15 months that the Irishman will be in action. His last outing was a submission defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last October.

It will be interesting to see what he plans on doing if he is successful in his comeback.
