Fresh off of a strong return at UFC 234, it’s apparently time Anderson Silva makes a return to his native Brazil.

Word just broke from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that Silva will return against Jarod Cannonier at May’s UFC 237 pay-per-view from Curitiba:

Silva recently returned from a USADA suspension to challenge top contender Israel Adesanya at this month’s UFC 234 from Melbourne. Although he lost the fight, the post-fight talk was mainly centered on how well a 43-year-old great could hang with a contender like “The Last Stylebender” due to his performance.

He’ll have no easy task in Cannonier. The former light heavyweight most recently knocked out WSOF two-division champion David Branch in his 185-pound debut in November. Cannonier is no easy task. Silva is clearly all about the toughest challenges late in his career. He hasn’t won much lately, but he’s fought Daniel Cormier, Adesanya, and Michael Bisping. Now he faces a fighter who appears to be a powerful force in a new weight class.

Silva has not fought in Brazil since 2012. He beat Stephan Bonnar with a vicious TKO when he was still the middleweight champ. There’s little doubt his homecoming will be a huge event due to his status in the country.

UFC 237 features a women’s strawweight title fight between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade. It’s unknown if that fight will serve as the headliner, however.
