Brandon Thatch vs. Stephen Thompson Set For UFC Fight Night Broomfield

Brandon Thatch

The UFC’s Valentine’s Day card set to go down on February 14, 2015 from the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado is starting to fill up.

The UFC announced today (Thurs., November 11, 2014) that a battle of rising welterweight prospects is set to go down on the card as Colorado’s own Brandon Thatch will take on Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Thatch made his octagon debut in August of 2013 at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 where he received “Knockout of the Night” honors in his win over Justin Edwards. He then returned in November 2013 where he scored a submission win over Paulo Thiago at UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson.

Since then “Rukus” had suffered from an unfortunate string of injuries. He was set to take on Jordan Mein in what would have been a very interesting matchup at last August’s UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Dos Anjos; however, he had to pull out due to toe injury. Thatch will look to get back on track in his home state.

Thompson has been a bit more active than Thatch as of late, and has been very successful in the UFC thus far. Winning five out of his six UFC bouts, Thompson’s only loss came to the dangerous Matt Brown. “Wonderboy” has also scored three finishes in his young UFC career. He’s known for his unorthodox striking and effective kicks.

The last time we saw Thompson compete was at September’s UFC 178, where he was able to pick apart longtime veteran Patrick Cote en route to a unanimous decision win. He’ll look for his fifth win in a row in Colorado.

It’s shaping up to be an interesting Valentine’s day in Colorado, and I have to say I’m very intrigued by Thatch vs. Thompson. Who do you see winning the bout and continuing their rise up the crowded welterweight ranks?
