Bobby Green Out Of UFC 169, Jamie Varner Steps In Against Abel Trujillo
Abel Trujillo made a statement at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Benavidez 2, knocking out Roger Bowling in the rematch of their August no contest. Heavy-handed Trujillo was soon matched with surging 155er Bobby Green. News has now broken that Green is out of the UFC 169 bout with ‘Killa’, but a replacement has been found.
The reason behind Green’s withdrawal is yet to be revealed, but UFC officials today announced that Jamie Varner will step in to fill the void that ‘King’ has left. Varner is the former WEC Lightweight champ and is rapidly becoming a fan favorite in the UFC. After a bad patch in his career between 2009-11, ‘C-4’ has gone 4-2 since; dropping a decision to Glieson Tibau at 164 recently.
A TKO win at 146 over Edson Barboza really put Varner back on the map, and now he faces Abel Trujillo at an already stacked UFC 169 card. This will be a test for both men; Trujillo will try to prove he can handle a former champ, and Varner will once again try to rise from the ashes. Check out how the February 1st card is shaping up:
