BJ Penn and Jake Shields want to fight each other
Speaking via Twitter, BJ “The Prodigy” Penn expressed his desire to fight the recent UFC Welterweight title challenger Jake Shields. Penn stated that he would never fight a Cesar Gracie fighter, but Jake Shields has been calling him out “for years”.
In his response to BJ Penn (also via Twitter), Shields accepted the challenge, but also added that he would like the fight to be the first 5 Round Non-Title Fight.
BJ Penn was originally scheduled to face Jon Fitch at UFC 132, but now finds himself without an opponent after Fitch had to pull out of the fight due to a shoulder injury. Despite losing against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 129, Jake Shields is still one of the top ranked fighters in the UFC Welterweight division, and could easily serve as a #1 contender fight for BJ Penn.
