Biggest Winners & Losers From UFC Fight Night 60
UFC Fight Night 60 went down this past Valentine’s Day 2015, in Broomfield, Colorado, and provided an entertaining night of action. The enthralling main event was the main focus of the evening, and delivered on many levels. Pivotal bouts in the featherweight and flyweight division also give some interesting talking points.
Without further ado, the biggest winners & losers from UFC Fight Night 60:
Benson Henderson vs Brandon Thatch
The welterweight debut of Henderson could not have gone any better really. It was a FOTN performance, the former lightweight champion survived some tough exchanges and big shots, and got a much needed finish and win. Talk of a bout with Rory MacDonald are interesting enough, but there are so many others in the 170-pound division. How about Johny Hendricks vs Benson Henderson if Matt Brown drops out, what about Carlos Condit for his return bout? “Smooth” looked refreshed at welterweight, and he should stay there.
Brandon Thatch may not have lived up to his hype for the home town fans, but he put across a good enough account of himself. Perhaps his cardio needs a little work, but he was stepping up big time against the former 155-pound king of two major promotions, and “Smooth” is just a cardio freak. What’s next? Maybe a more naturally progressive fight at this stage for “Rukus”; Thiago Alves would be a great match up.
Max Holloway vs Cole Miller
“Blessed” extended his win streak to five with a unanimous decision win over the returning “Magrinho”, and made it look relatively ease. He now has his sights set on a pretty high level fight in the form of Cub Swanson at UFC On FOX 15. Onwards and upwards for Holloway, who could arguably get a shot at the winner of McGregor & Aldo if he beats “Beautiful Destruction”.
For Miller it’s really time to assess a few things after his ninth professional loss. He didn’t look anywhere near as good as the guy who submitted Ross Pearson and Dan Lauzon in back-to-back submission wins in 2010. Perhaps a tuner fight is required, or one where he at least has a level playing field in terms of style and skills. Perhaps a rematch with Efrain Escudero?
Props
Neil Magny proved once again that he is a legitimate force at welterweight, submitting Kiichi Kunimoto and racking up his sixth straight win. Give this man a top 10 opponent. Ben Henderson gets another mention for fighting with a tooth pick in his mouth, Efrain Escudero looked in beast mode as he smashed Rodrigo De Lima over three rounds, and Ray Borg/Chas Skelly certainly deserve a shout for their respective wins at flyweight and featherweight.
