Brad Katona
The first of the two best MMA fighters from Manitoba that we’re going to spotlight is Brad Katona. Brad is a Winnipeg native who fights out of Winnipeg MMA and Straight Blast Gym Ireland.
He is a lifelong martial artist, who started in karate and wrestling before getting into BJJ and MMA. Before going into fighting full-time, Katona earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
With his future secured, Brad went head first in MMA and quickly found success. After going 6-0 as a pro, Katona earned a spot on TUF season 27 and ended up winning the season.
Despite winning TUF 27, Brad had a rough first run in the UFC. He initially won his first two fights, but lost decisions to Merab Dvalishvili and Hunter Azure which led to his release.
Even though Katona was released, he evolved into a more well-rounded fighter. The Winnipeg native put together a 4-fight win streak and won the Brave FC bantamweight title.
Katona’s win streak earned him a spot on the 31st season of TUF where he made history. “Superman” became the first fighter in history to win two TUF seasons and earned his 2nd UFC run.
In his current second UFC, Katona is currently 1-1 and has an upcoming fight against Jesse Butler. He will look to continue his current UFC run and prove that he’s one of the best MMA fighters from Manitoba.
Mariusz Książkiewicz
The second of the two current best MMA fighters from Manitoba is “The Iron Pol” Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz. Mariusz is a teammate of Katona’s at Winnipeg MMA and is one of the gym’s rising stars.
“The Iron Pol” is a 34 year old light heavyweight, who is currently the top ranked light heavyweight in Canada. Książkiewicz started his pro MMA career in 2011 and has gradually been improving his record.
He was able to win the first eight fights of his career before earning a shot at the UFC on the DWCS. Unfortunately, Mariusz lost a decision and will have to wait for another shot with the organization.
Since then, Mariusz has gone 3-0 which includes 3 TKO wins and one fight with the LFA. His current record stands at an impressive 11-2 with 10 of his 11 wins by finishes.
Mariusz “The Iron Pol” Książkiewicz has proven that he is one of the best MMA fighters from Manitoba. It’s only a matter of time before his talent is realized and he gets his shot in a top MMA organization.
