Benson Henderson To Battle Patricio “Pitbull” At Bellator 160

Henderson vs Pitbull

Former UFC lightweight champion “Smooth” Benson Henderson has a dance partner for his sophomore Bellator appearance.

Henderson will lock horns with former promotional featherweight ace Patricio “Pitbull” Freire as the headliner for Bellator 160. According to a report from latimes.com, the event will take place on Thursday August 26 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, and will be part of a two-night combat sports doubleheader.

Premiere Boxing Champions will hold an event on August 27, with both cards being shown by broadcast partner Spike TV. The boxing lineup will be headed up by former two-division champion Robert Guerrero taking on David Peralta in a welterweight showdown.

The stakes will be high in the lightweight contest between Henderson and Freire. A title shot will be on the line for the winner.

Henderson is coming off a disappointing promotional debut back in April, as he was soundly defeated by welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 153 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. “Smooth” dropped a unanimous decision in his bid to unseat the Russian from the 170-pound throne. Henderson had won his first two welterweight appearances to wind down his UFC tenure.

“”Pitbull”, meanwhile, is looking to build on a second-round guillotine submission of Henry Corrales at the same event. That victory saw two-time champion Freire rebound from dropping his featherweight title to Daniel Straus at Bellator 145 last November.
