Beneil Dariush Submits Drew Dober With Rare Armbar
Former Top 15-ranked contender Beneil Dariush looked to build a win streak against rising star Drew Dober on the main card of tonight’s (Sat., March 9, 2019) UFC on ESPN+ 4 at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Dariush came in off of a victory over Thiago Moises at UFC Denver last year. The victory snapped a 0-2-1 streak with knockout losses to Edson Barboza and Alexander Hernandez in his previous three bouts. Dober comes in on a three-fight win streak after outlasting Jon Tuck by decision in his last bout at UFC Lincoln.
Round One:
Dariush snapped a counter eft and a jab early. A leg kick followed. But Dober countered with a big left hook and some body work. Dariush clinched and looked for a trip. Dober eventually broke free and rocked Dariush with a huge punch. Dariush again tied up his opponent to clear the storm. Dober landed a clean right on Dariush’s chin. More shots folloed but somehow Dariush stayed upright. Dober scored again with a hook and Dariush got a body lock. Dober threw a flying knee to close the first round.
Round Two:
Dober landed a high kick that dropped Dariush early. Again Dariush worked hard for a takedown against the fence, and this time he got it. He worked to pass, stepping over into half guard. Dariush had position but did little with it in somewhat of a stalemate. Finally Dariush stepped into mount. He landed some brief shots but Dober got up.
Dariush kept him down and smothered him more, however. He mounted Dober again and landed ground and pound. Dariush then took Dober’s back and went for an armbar but gave up precious position. Dober got back up and looked to turn the tables. He locked on a guillotine but it didn’t stick. Dariush wiggled out to go for a kimura, a reverse triangle, and then an armbar. Dober shockingly submitted to the armbar with 19 seconds left in the second round.
Wild fight. Check out the ending here:
