Earlier today (Sat., October 27, 2018), mixed martial arts history was made when the Demetrious Johnson for Ben Askren trade was made official between the UFC and ONE Championship.

The announcement ended a week of frenzied discussion surrounding the first-ever ‘trade’ between two major fight organizations. Askren fueled that fire by calling out much of the UFC welterweight roster in addition to Khabib, GSP, and the Diaz brothers.

Now that ‘Funky’ is officially coming to the UFC, many wondered just how well he would get along with UFC President Dana White. After all, the two have been quite at odds in years past. In fact, White even once said that when sleeping aid Ambien “can’t sleep, it takes Ben Askren.” Askren was a dominant champion in Bellator who was released for his perceived-to-be boring style at the time.

But Askren appears ready to let bygones be bygones. He made light of his past relationship with his new boss on Twitter earlier today:

Askren’s New Brand Of Humor

That’s a good one. In fact, Askren has been on absolute fire all this week. His brutal deadpan insults of Darren Till were comedy gold. He simply had MMA social media ablaze this week. It’s about time that he finally attempts to prove himself against the best in the world.

Askren has dominated all the competition outside the UFC. The debate is always whether or not he was just a product of subpar competition. Many others believe he is the most dominant welterweight in MMA. They claim he will prove that against even the top names in the UFC.

Regardless, his rare sense of humor and world-class ground skills have given the welterweight division a shot in the arm. Askren is quickly gaining fans and haters by the minute. White used to be among the latter, but even he has come around. He clearly knows people want to see Askren test his glaring record against the top dogs in the UFC.

Which side are you on? Do you believe “Funky” will sink or thrive in the Octagon?
