Scott Coker On Brock Lesnar: He Is A Big Needle Mover

It seems as if Brock Lesnar’s name happens to pop up about every month in today’s MMA world. Lesnar is currently signed with the WWE, but as his contract nears it’s end, the rumors are constantly swirling about a potential return to the cage for the former UFC heavyweight champion.

In recent weeks, UFC president Dana White has claimed that he has stayed in touch with Lesnar and that he does have an interest in returning to the octagon. However, it seems as if the octagon may not be Lesnar’s only option if he indeed wants to make a return to fighting.

Appearing on today’s (Mon., December 1, 2014) edition of the MMA Hour, Bellator President Scott Coker was asked if he had any interest in signing the former champion and here’s what he had to say:

“That’s a good question,” Coker told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s The MMA Hour when asked if Bellator is interested in signing Lesnar. We’ve had a conversation internally and it’s worth a conversation, but that’s something we’ll pursue maybe later into January.”

Although Lesnar hasn’t personally come out and said he’s interested in making a return, many would suspect he’d choose the UFC if he was to return. Bellator, though with a little luck, could send major waves throughout the MMA universe if they were able to sign Lesnar.

It is clear that Lesnar possesses star power unlike most athletes, and having him appear live and free on Spike TV would be huge for Bellator. Coker continued with his thoughts on the impact Lesnar could have on the growing company:

“I would say, look, any fighter that’s out there or any star athlete – not star athlete in the sense of a baseball player, but like a Brock Lesnar – that really wants to fight, we’re going to have a conversation with them. Because if they can move the needle, we’re going to want them on Spike TV.

“I think that he’s a big needle mover,” Coker says. “There have been several years that have passed and I think that he still has the WWE limelight. So, I think that he still has a lot of star power, but to come back and say, ‘Hey, I want to train, I want to commit, I want fight’, that’s going to be a big commitment on his part. We haven’t had a conversation yet, but we’d like to at some point.”

I don’t think there’s many fans who wouldn’t want to see Lesnar back in the cage, but is there any real chance he returns? And if he does, would he pass on the UFC and head to Bellator?
