Bellator fighter Daiane Silva still hospitalized after dangerous weight cut, remains in ICU

Bellator MMA fighter, Daiane Silva remains hospitilized following a botched weight cut ahead of a scheduled fight against Eman Aldmulhaf back in September, with the Brazilian’s manager, Alex Davis confirming her condition a month after the initial incident.

Silva, who boasts an unbeaten 3-0 professional mixed martial arts record, was slated to make her Bellator MMA debut last month in the U.K., having landed a trio of consecutive victories over Carolina Kerr, and a pair of wins — including a championship success against Mirela Vargas before her scheduled bow.

And according to a report from MMA Fighting, who also received comment from the above-mentioned, Davis, while Bellator MMA have yet to return comment on request from the outlet, the organization flew one of the Brazilian’s friends to attend her in hospital in England, after Silva had been placed in an induced coma after suffering kidney failure as a result of her weight cut.

“As Daiane (Silva) made weight for her debut in Bellator, she suffered an accident due to dehydration, Davis told of Silva — who currently remains sedated. “She was promptly seen by a doctor, was rushed to the hospital in delicate condition, was admitted to intensive care. Her condition was serious, but since, she has been improving steadily and our hope is that she recovers fully. Myself, her team, her doctor, the hospital doctors and Bellator have been working closely together in support with whatever is needed to help her recovery. We ask all to join us in our wished and prayers that she recovers fully.”

Furthermore, following her PFL super fight title win over compatriot, Larissa Pacheco over the course of the weekend in the Middle East, current Bellator MMA featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg spoke of Daiane Silva’s condition.

I think you have to be cut safe and make an agreement with the event and I know they did, but the corner didn’t follow the rules. It’s really sad. I hope she recovers fast. I know she’s in [a] bad situation but we pray for her and support her so she can come back home soon.”
