Bellator 156 Results: Eduardo Dantas Wins Bantamweight Title
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, June 17th, 2016) will come in the form of Bellator 156. Headlining the card are Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.
Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas met in the main event of Bellator 156. This was a bantamweight title bout. In round 1, both guys having a feeling out process early. Not a ton of action in this one and the fans were booing heavily. In round 2, Galvao started to let his hands go in this round, but Dantas was landing combos at will. Dantas was firing back with some kicks that backed up Galvao. In round 3, Dantas was landing jabs that backed up Galvao in the early going. Galvao buckled down and started to cover up better. Galvao was started to get busted up in this round and was bleeding. Dantas really turned things around in this round and it was impressive. Galvao’s right eye was swollen shut. In round 4, Galvao came out and went for a takedown right out of the gate. Galvao struggled with this and Dantas continued to work him over with strikes. In round 5, Galvao pulled guard at the beginning of the round but then just stood up. They exchanged to the bell. Dantas won the fight by decision and won the bantamweight title.
Chidi Njokuani and Thiago Jambo Goncalves met in the co-main event of Bellator 156. Things didn’t pick up until the third round, but it was a solid fight. In round 1, the two fighters had a feeling out process early in the round. Jambo went for a takedown but struggled with it, and Njokuani stayed on his feet. Jambo clinched with him up against the fence midway through the round. Jambo worked him over with strikes and knees to end the round. In round 2, Jambo was landing some sick kicks in this round and backing up Njokuani. Jambo worked him over in the clinch, but they kept getting separated. In round 3, Njokuani was mixing up his strikes well in this round and felt the pressure as he turned it up inside the cage. Jambo was just dominating with his clinch work which slowed down Njokuani. Njokuani landed a body kick and then finished him on the ground with strikes.
Brandon Halsey and John Salter met in a middleweight bout at Bellator 156. A quick finish to say the least. Halsey went for a takedown early but couldn’t get it. Salter busted him up, which made Halsey bleed from his eyebrow. This one turned bloody. The doctors checked on him, but they said he was good to go. Halsey went for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Salter landed some good shots from the top before Halsey got to his feet. Halsey took him down with under a minute to go but Salter caught him in a triangle choke for the win.
Opening the Bellator 156 main card on Spike TV was Chris Honeycutt vs. Mikkel Parlo in a middleweight bout. In round 1, both guys tried to take the fight to the ground early but neither were successful. They striked to the end of the round. In round 2, Parlo came out and tried to take him down but wasn’t successful. Honeycutt dropped him midway through the round but Parlo got right back to his feet. Parlo continued to clinch and try to take the fight to the ground but it just wasn’t working. In round 3, Both guys come out and just throwing down before clinching. Both guys were tiring down but still putting on a good striking fest. Honeycutt landed a late round takedown briefly.
