Bellator 155 Results: Melvin Manhoef Gets Robbed, Rafael Carvalho Remains Champion

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, May 20th, 2016) will come in the form of Bellator 155. Headlining the card are Rafael Carvalho and Melvin Manhoef, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Rafael Carvalho and Melvin Manhoef met in a middleweight title bout in the main event of Bellator 155. The first two rounds were long, to say the least as there was not a ton of action.

Things picked up in the third round, and they started to go at it. Manhoef was working him over with leg kicks while Carvalho was trying anything to get momentum going. Carvalho scored a takedown in this round. In the fourth round, Carvalho comes out and lands a series of jabs. Carvalho shoots and Manhoef stuffed it. Carvalho shot in and got a takedown midway through the round and worked him over with elbows. They ended the round on the feet. In the fifth round, both men took each other down and it was a really entertaining round with back-and-forth action. A slow-building fight, but a fun one at the end. The judges gave Carvalho the win by split decision to remain middleweight champion. Jimmy Smith on commentary said he was disgusted by that decision. Horrible call.

Pat Curran and Georgi Karakhanyan met in a feather bout in the co-main event of Bellator 155. A very good fight that picked up the pace for this event. In round one, Curran dropped him with a left hook and Curran swarmed him on the ground with strikes. Curran got on top in half guard and worked him over with strikes. Curran got mount and went for an armbar, but Karakhanyan got out of it. In the second round, Curran took him down to begin the round and got half guard. Karakhanyan transitioned and got off his back. He got guard and went for a guillotine choke but then let go of it and got on top in half guard. In the third round, Karakhanyan took him down mid-way through the round and beat him down with elbows. After three rounds, the judge gave Curran the decision win.

Dan Charles (10-3) and Augusto Sakai (9-0) met in a heavyweight bout at Bellator 155. This was an okay fight that saw both guys throw some good shots, but nothing major happened other than Charles being kicked in the nuts twice in the first round. After the fight, Sakai tried to go after Charles, but Big John Mccarthy held him back. The fight ends in a majority draw.

Marloes Coenen (23-7) and Alexis Dufresne (6-2) met in a featherweight bout at Bellator 155. If you’re a fan of grappling, then you enjoyed this fight. Dufresne took Coenen down to begin the round and got top position in guard. However, midway through the round, Coenen swept and got on top in guard. With just seconds left in the first round, Dufresne locked in a triangle armbar and won the fight in the first round.

Opening the Bellator 155 main card on Spike TV was Joey Beltran (17-13) vs. Chase Gormley (13-5) is in a heavyweight bout. A close fight to say the least. There was action, but you had to wait for it which can be annoying. Both guys used their jabs nicely, and Gormley was throwing more power strikes than Beltran, which was expected as Beltran is not a power striker. Beltran did a good job of getting inside with his jabs which backed up Gormley. Gormley picked up the split decision win.
