Bellator 132 Results: ‘Pitbull’ Submits Straus
Tonight’s (Fri., January 16, 2015) Bellator 132 is in the books from Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California.
The event features a featherweight title match between champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and former champion Daniel Straus. The bout started off with crisp strikes from both men, but a low blow from Freire marred the first round. Two below the belt and an eye poke came from Straus in the second, resulting in a one-point deduction from John McCarthy.
The fight became a grinding wrestling match along the cage wall, and then the bout’s pace slowed a bit before Straus landed a big left and a flurry in the third, only to see Freire reverse a takedown to land on top. The middle round finished with Straus landing some hard punches and a takedown.
He dropped “Pitbull” with a hard right hand in the fourth round as he rushed forward with aggressive combos. A huge knee hit Straus low and saw McCarthy bear hug a celebrating Freire, only to tell Straus a foot hit him. “””Pitbull” got a solid takedown as Straus tried to counter with a kimura, but Freire escaped to secure a tight rear naked choke for the telling win.
Touted wrestler Bubba Jenkins battled former featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan. While Karakhanyan was taken down repeatedly as expected, he was able to capitalize with an absolutely brutal choke that forced Jenkins to pass out for an impressive submission.
UFC veteran Houston Alexander faced off with Virgil Zwicker at light heavyweight. The fight was relatively action-packed, with Zwicker landing some big uppercuts and Alexander securing some effective takedowns and top control. Zwicker teed off with some big punches in the third round, and the judges awarded him a split decision.
Fernando Gonzalez fought Marius Zaromskis in a back-and forth bout at welterweight, with Gonzalez pushing the pace with a high volume of accurate punches to win a 30-27 unanimous decision.
