Assault Case Regarding Matt Brown Still Alive

“The Immortal” Matt Brown had a huge opportunity at last weekend’s (March 14, 2015) UFC 185 when he took on former champion Johny Hendricks. With a win over “Bigg Rigg”, Brown likely would have earned a title shot, but unfortunately he came up short. However, just days after the fight, it seems as if Brown’s two-fight losing skid isn’t his only problem.

About a month before the fight, reports surfaced of possible assault charges against the vicious welterweight. His former Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, Rodrigo Botti, claimed that when an altercation in the gym turned violent, “The Immortal” one assaulted him and he was pressing charges. However, it was recently announced before the fight that the Hilliard, Ohio Police had dropped their investigation of Brown and he was in the clear to fight.

Well, apparently that is not the case, well not completely. Just days after UFC 185, MMAJunkie has reported that Botti filed a “private filing” with the courts. This allows citizens to bypass law enforcement in some offenses.

Speaking on the topic, the BJJ coach called Brown a coward, noting that he is aiming for justice but is aware he may not get it:

“He was a coward when he attacked me and he is being even more of a coward trying to cover it up,” Botti told MMA Junkie. “My position is wait on the justice, but we all know there is a lot of gaps in the system.”

When reports first surfaced, Brown denied all allegations, calling the assault charge a “straight-up lie”, but Botti doesn’t seem to be backing off. According to the official report, the case has not been “reopened” just yet, but is considered to be an active investigation.
