Anthony Smith: If You Wanna Make Money, Bet On Me At UFC 235
This time last year, Anthony Smith was coming off a crushing loss to Thiago Santos at middleweight.
Now he’s headed for the biggest fight of his career in the main event of this weekend’s (Sat., March 2, 2019) UFC 235 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“”Lionheart” will take on legendary champion Jon Jones for “Bones'” 205-pound title following three straight wins in the class. He finished former champions Rashad Evans and Shogun Rua before submitting former title contender Volkan Oezdemir to earn his shot at Jones. However, it’s a shot where many aren’t giving him much of a chance to win. According to BestFightOdds, Smith is anywhere from a +490 to a +700 underdog on major MMA betting sites.
That means you would earn anywhere from $490 to $700 on a winning bet placed on Smith. By contrast, you’d have to place anywhere from $800 to $1450 on Jones to win a paltry $100. He’s a near-record favorite and probably should be on paper. But Smith claims that doesn’t matter. ‘Lionheart’ said that if you want to make some serious cash at UFC 235, bet on him. He told TMZ betting on Jones would be a big mistake:
“If you wanna make some money, throw some money on me, man!!! If you don’t and you bet against me, I’m sorry you’re gonna lose your money.
“I’m gonna finish Jon Jones,” Smith said. “I’m gonna put this fist on his chin and he’s gonna go down. And, whether he stays down is up to him. But, if he gets back up, I’ll do it again.”
A bold prediction from the latest contender at 205 pounds. Many have said the same about “Bones,” only to be dispatched with the ruthless efficiency the all-time great has exhibited throughout his career. Jones has been the only one who can beat Jones. It’s only his outside-the-cage troubles that have halted his rise to the position of MMA’s GOAT – at least for now.
But Smith has scary knockout power, and he believes he’ll be able to hit Jones clean where so many others have failed. If he can, some huge paydays could be coming to brazen bettors in the fight game.
Do you have the courage to bet on one of MMA’s biggest underdogs ever?
