Anthony Pettis Undergoes Surgery, Out 4-6 Months
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis has all the makings to be a potential superstar, but he has always been slowed down by injuries. He first secured UFC gold back in August 2013 when he submitted former champion Benson Henderson in the first round at UFC 164, but then was forced to the sidelines for 15-months due to a knee injury before he returned at UFC 181 last December to successfully defend his title against Gilbert Melendez.
Most recently Pettis attempted to defend his title for a second time against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 in March, and the result was a brutal one for the Duke Roufus-trained fighter, as “Showtime” was battered over five-rounds, surrendering his title and obtaining a broken orbital bone in the process.
Looking to get back into the title race, it was announced that Pettis would meet young contender Myles “Fury” Jury at UFC on FOX 16 this summer in Chicago, but the injury bug struck him again. It was made clear recently that the former champion had suffered an elbow injury in practice and was forced out of the bout, forcing Edson Barboza to step in and meet Jury.
However, it looks as if Pettis is on the road to recovery already as per reports from MMAFighting.com, indicating that the former champion has underwent successful surgery. Although no definite timetable has been set for his return, “Showtime” is expected to miss at least 4-6 months.
Can Pettis come back healthier and stronger and when he does, who would you like to see him meet?
