Anthony Johnson: The Media Writes Bullsh*t, But I’m Fine With It

Anthony Johnson successfully bounced back from his UFC 187 title loss last night (Saturday September 5, 2015) as he blasted Jimi Manuwa on the main card of UFC 191. ‘Poster Boy’ made it out of the first round, only to get starched just 28 seconds in to the second. It was Johnson’s 14th knockout from 20 victories, and he moves to 20-5 overall (11-5 UFC).

Speaking during the UFC 191 post fight press conference, ‘Rumble’ reveals he knew he had Manuwa worried during a staredown on Thursday, where he witnessed the Brit’s hands shaking:

“I knew Jimi (Manuwa) was worried when we had the staredown on Thursday, his hands were shaking a little and I knew I was in his head. He could have been nervous then and still came out and performed during the fight,”

Johnson then went on to address the allegations of domestic abuse and animal cruelty in the build up to the fight, and more specifically how he has been portrayed by the media:

“I was fine, it was y’all that wasn’t fine. The media writes a lot of bullsh*t, but that’s what you gotta do to get paid, and I’m fine with that. But if you’re gonna write something bad then also write something good,”

‘Trial by media’ and ‘witch hunt’ are terms that have been tossed around while debating the recent accusations aimed at ‘Rumble’, and with the lack of actual evidence or solid charges against Johnson, we’d say quite rightly too.

Johnson’s win at UFC 191 speaks louder than anything he could say at the post fight presser, but it leaves questions about the way he has been treated by certain media outlets. While we’ve tried to remain factual and non-opinionated about ‘Rumble’s’ recent press, certain reporters have done almost the exact opposite.

Love him or hate him, Anthony Johnson proved he is here to stay at UFC 191, so until there is/if there comes any sort of actual case or unquestionable evidence regarding his alleged wrongdoings, let’s just enjoy his recent performance and look forward to what’s next.
