Anderson Silva Still Denies Steroid Use, Do You Believe Him?
Former UFC middelweight champion Anderson Silva threw himself in to a meat grinder of problems this year. It all stemmed from his failed drug test for steroids after UFC 183, when he beat Nick Diaz by five-round unanimous decision. Further testing also revealed anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills.
His reputation and legacy seemingly in tatters, “The Spider” has remained constant in his denial of steroid use. The drugs in question were drostanolone metabolites, an anabolic steroid, and androsterone which is a type of endogenous testosterone. During the most recent episode of TUF Brazil 4, Silva is quoted by MMAJunkie denying using any form of performance enhancing drugs:
“No, I didn’t take anything. Hear me out. I never took anything like that. No way. I’ve never taken anything. I did take anti-inflammatory shots. No way! I’m telling you I didn’t do it! Are you crazy? I took hydroxocobalamin for three days. That was the only thing I took.”
Silva also gave an emotional goodbye to his team of fighters on the reality TV show:
“You can’t give up on your dreams. Maintain your focus in the game. Continue to be disciplined; remember everything you went through to get here. You cannot allow anything to strip this away from you. Got it? I’m asking this as a brother and a friend – maintain your focus.”
Silva was removed from the show by the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission), and his fighting future remains up in the air. It seems a pretty open and shut case, but do you think the GOAT is innocent, or a cheater with a steroid-fueled career?
