Anderson Silva Claims Tainted Sex Drug Caused Dope Test Fail

The case of former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be presented tomorrow (August 13. 2015) in front of the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission). The hearing is in regards to ‘The Spider’s’ failed drug screen following his UFC 183 decision win over fellow test popper Nick Diaz, an allegation that Silva has firmly denied up until this point. Silva’s hearings have been postponed for months now, and after we learned that both Silva and Diaz passed and failed dope tests for the same event, it’s no wonder why.

The case that Silva and his attorney will present before the NSAC is based on two contributing factors; tainted supplements and inconsistent test results. After failing the pre-fight test, Silva passed the post-fight, leading to confusion about the legitimacy of these screens, and also providing a case for reasonable doubt. Silva’s lawyer, Michael Alonso, will also put to the Commission that he has tested a sexual performance supplement that Silva was using and it contained a banned substance.

This as per MMAFighting.com‘s report:

“(Silva) was administering or using a supplement for the purpose of enhancing sexual performance and testing of the supplement revealed that the supplement was contaminated with an Exogenous Anabolic Agent: Drostanolone metabolite.”

Alonso also wrote that another supplement Silva was taking could have contained androstane.

Silva’s defense against the NAC will also contain inconsistencies in drug tests, including two tests — one pre-fight and one post-fight — that Silva passed. The NAC did not include in its initial complaint the post-fight test that Silva had passed, according to the answer to the complaint.

So two tainted supplements and inconsistent testing is the defense, but what Alonso is pushing for is a lift on the temporary suspension placed on the MMA legend, and no further punishment to be administered. But what of the failed drug tests for sleeping aids? The report continues in to the subject claiming Silva was using Temazepam and Oxazepam.

Silva’s attorney will argue against these as used for anti-anxiety and sleeping aids, but the fact remains that both are containing of banned substances and no exemption was given by the NSAC, so there could possibly be a fine or suspension just attached to those.

Even with the loophole Silva’s legal team may have to work with, there’s still a big question over his immediate future in MMA. Check out the full case from the defense, as obtained by MMAFighting:
