Alistair Overeem sentenced in battery case, administered a surprise drug test

Alistair Overeem and his representatives had a busy day today.  On his agenda were the UFC 146 prefight press conference, a court case regarding a battery charge and a surprise drug test.

The court case stemmed from a charge leveled against Overeem over New Year’s weekend. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Overeem was issued a citation on January 2 after he allegedly “pushed or shoved a woman in the face, causing her to stagger back.” Today, according to the same paper, Overeem’s representatives were in court for him as he was handed a sentence of 50 hours of community service and anger-management counseling.

This afternoon at 2 p.m. ET, Overeem and several other fighters booked for UFC 146 took part in a press conference to promote the May 26 fight card. Following the presser, the six fighters: Overeem, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva and Junior dos Santos were tested.  According to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, the testing was really a matter of convenience for the commission, “We brought the drug test to them instead of making them go to the drug test. If they were not in Las Vegas, I would need to find them a lab, which is of course, much more of a hassle.” – for more see MMAFighting.com
