Alistair Overeem Calls Out Junior Dos Santos On Instagram

Veteran heavyweight kickboxer Alistair Overeem has got back to winning ways in the UFC octagon recently, compiling two straight wins since suffering a handful of stoppage losses. The bad times started for ‘The Reem’ when he was knocked out by ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, Travis Browne and then Ben Rothwell most recently. A decision win over Roy Nelson and a KO of his own over countryman Stefan Struve has seen the Dutch heavyweight injected back in to the top 10 of the division.

The heavyweight division is now a rather interesting landscape, with Fabricio Werdum rising to the top of the crop with an impressive finish over Cain Velasquez. Andrei Arlovski, Junior Dos Santos and Stipe Miocic are all potentially in the mix for a title shot, but ‘The Demolition Man’ wants a piece of the Brazilian ‘Cigano’ before anyone else. The two were originally slated to face off at UFC 160, but after drug test controversy and an injury led to Overeem being bumped from the card, Dos Santos instead faced and knocked out Mark Hunt at the 2013 event.

Taking to his instagram account, Overeem, who now calls Greg Jackson‘s home, calls once again for a fight with his Brazilian foe:

Yes or no? @danawhiteufc make it happen 👊

This isn’t the first time that Overeem has called out JDS this year, and the former heavyweight champion has already responded once by claiming ‘Reem’ only wants to fight him when he is injured. The two have a great stylistic pairing, but Overeem would be jumping a few ranks to get the fight with Dos Santos who, as previously mentioned, is being seriously considered for the first crack at ‘Vai Cavalo’.

With Werdum holding losses to JDS and Andrei Arlovski, and Cain Velasquez still somewhat in the frame, is Overeem jumping the gun, or is this fight so fan friendly that it needs to happen?
