Alexander Gustafsson On Jon Jones’ Latest Cut: At Least You Have A Memory From Me
No. 1-ranked UFC light heavyweight hasn’t really been known as much of a trash talker throughout his rising MMA career. That is, until he took UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones to the limit at last September’s UFC 165 from Toronto.
Beating on the dominant champ like no one had before, “The Mauler” badly damaged Jones and may have emerged with the gold were it not for one fateful fourth round spinning back elbow.
After defeating Jimi Manuwa at UFC Fight Night 37 on March 8, Gustafsson earned a long awaited rematch with his new archrival at September 27’s UFC 178, but the bout unfortunately fell apart when Gustafsson was forced out with a knee injury.
Yesterday, Jones was found to have cut himself rather seriously in training to face Gustafsson’s replacement, undefeated Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier. “DC” was quick to say that he would grind his elbow into Jones’ cut, but today, “The Mauler” has taken it a step further. Resorting to Instagram, Gustafsson implied that he left a lasting impression on “Bones” at their fight last year:
@jonnybones, really sorry for the deep cut I gave you in our last fight. At least you will have a memory from me every time someone opens it up for you. To not make your other eye jealous for not having a cut, I promise to leave a memory on that one as well next time we fight. Now, take care
