In one of the most underappreciated divisions in all of MMA, UFC flyweight Henry Cejudo has produced interest and hype in the struggling division, and people seem to be interested in what he will do in the future.

A former Olympic Gold medalist, “The Messenger” is currently ranked No. 7 in the division, and with a lack of contenders, he could be on his way to a title shot very soon, but he disagrees after his most recent performance.

Scheduled to debut at UFC 177 last August, Cejudo, who has had weight cutting issues throughout the past, fell ill the day before the event cutting weight and the bout fell through. Then forced to move up to bantamweight, he finally debuted in December, scoring an impressive and dominant decision win over Dustin Kimura.

After the impressive win, the former Olympian begged and pleaded with his employers to be able to drop back down to 125-pounds, and Cejudo finally made his UFC flyweight debut at UFC 185 in March, scoring yet another dominant decision win over former title challenger Chris Cariaso.

“The Messenger” returned to action last night (June 13, 2015) at UFC 188 in Mexico City, taking on the respectable and tough Chico Camus. Despite scoring another unanimous decision win, Cejudo didn’t look as good as he has, just grinding out the win. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, the former Olympian admitted that he had a tough weight cut, but this time due to food poisoning, causing him to tire in the fight.

Despite his success and the fact that he could receive a title shot in the near future, Cejudo, after being asked about a potential title fight next, actually laughed at the idea, saying not after his performance last night:

“Uh, no,” Cejudo said after a few laughs. “Not tonight. Not tonight, for sure.

“I think I’m better than that. I love to mix it up with my feet, knees. I didn’t throw any of that. I pretty much just boxed. That’s all I did. Because the more I moved, the more I felt fatigued.”

Despite possibly not being ready for a shot right now, Cejudo is continuing to prove that he will be a force in the 125-pound division. With an extremely well-rounded skillset, and the excitement he is bringing with him, big things should be in the works for the Olympian. Who should he meet next?
