UFC Fight Night 66 Aftermath: Somebody Give Edgar The Title Shot
We’ve had an action packed weekend of MMA to enjoy over the last two days, with UFC Fight Night 66 and Bellator 137 transpiring on Saturday May 16th and Friday May 15th respectively. Unfortunately for BMMA, they had to strip Brandon Halsey of his middleweight title for missing weight.
Over in the world of the UFC, things were a lot sweeter. Their first trip to the Philippines was a complete success, as the card delivered big in Asia. A few of the best bits of UFC Fight Night 66 included:
Frankie Edgar secures a title shot
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar showed up in spectacular form, making what was originally quite a tough pick look like a predetermined fate for Faber. His striking was on point and as always the takedown was there on demand.
What’s next for Frankie? A title shot against the winner of Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor at UFC 189, it’s as simple as that. Edgar needed to make a statement in Manila, and he did just that. It looks like we’ll see ‘The Answer’ once again searching for a title in his second weight class.
Mark Munoz gives a feel-good beating
It’s undeniable how much of a nice guy Mark Munoz is, especially when you consider the punishment he’s handed out over the years. ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ showed up full of gas and ready to rock, unfortunately for Luke Barnatt, he was little more than a heavy bag with a good chin at UFC Fight Night 66.
Munoz landed a barrage of heavy shots on the feet and on the ground, he outwrestled and outlasted the taller and younger man. His final UFC and MMA fight was one to remember for Mark Munoz, as the unanimous decision was read out the arena erupted in applause for their hometown hero, and we wave goodbye to Munoz after he gives a heart felt message to his fans. What a guy!
Jon Delos Reyes vs Roldan Sangch-an
What a fight this was, as these two angry flyweights put on a burner for the fans in the Philippines. Sangcha-an started out strong with some massive takedowns, attacking Reyes from side mount with heavy shots.
Crazy scrambles and explosive striking exchanges underlined this fight, as Delos Reyes dropped Sangch-an with a huge right hand and finished with the choke. The bloodied Reyes scored a huge comeback win in a crucial display of determination.

Neil Magny deserves a big mention for his incredible run of form, as he extended his win streak to seven in just over a year. The lanky welterweight needs to be included in top 5 discussion now, as he could emerge as the next contender with another win.
The judges need a slap for marring the first fight of the evening, robbing Nolan Ticman of a deserved win against Yao Zhikui. Gegard Mousasi needs a shout-out for absolutely wrestle-f*cking Costas Philippou, and how about Jon Tuck with the huge finish against Tae Hyun Bang?!?
