After nearly three years off due to complications from knee surgery, former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz made a triumphant return in the featured preliminary card bout at tonight’s (Sat., September 27, 2014) UFC 178 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The No. 10-ranked Cruz left no doubt that he is indeed one of the top bantamweights in the world by starching No. 5-ranked Takeya Mizugaki in just over a minute. With the win, Cruz ended Mizugaki’s five-fight win streak and supplanted himself as the clear No.1 contender for current champion TJ Dillashaw’s belt.

After the fight, Cruz called out his old nemesis Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male with some choice words courtesy of UFC on FOX:

Faber was quick to respond with some trash talk on Twitter, saying that if Dillashaw got the first crack at Cruz then “The Dominator” would have only lost to members of Team Alpha Male.

At that point Cruz was done playing around, calling out Faber for having the most title fight losses in a row (UFC on FOX):

So “The Dominator” is back, and it looks like his feud with Team Alpha Male is fiercer than it ever has been. We’re going to find out if he is indeed better than Dillashaw, because Dana White announced that Cruz will take on Dillashaw for the belt next.
