Countdown To UFC 178: Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier

UFC 178 countdown: Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier

UFC featherweights Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will settle their long standing beef this Saturday (September 27th, 2014) as they square off at UFC 178. The MGM Grand Garden Arena will play host to the event, which is set to be headlined by the flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso.

The event has had it’s fair share of ups and downs, but has ended up looking like a very stacked evening of action. McGregor’s last showing was as headliner of UFC Fight Night 46, when he knocked out Diego Brandao in front of his hometown fans in Dublin, Ireland.

“Diamond” last fought at The Ultimate Fighter Nations finals in April, scoring a TKO win over Akira Corossani and extending his current win streak to three. The bout has significance for many reasons; it will be the first PPV slot for “The Notorious” after three fights for the UFC, and will also mark the first top 10 opponent for the Irish trash talker.

Poirier will need to be on form as he looks to defend his place in the title picture at 145 pounds, and McGregor will find himself in a great position with a win over one of the division’s staple talents.
