Stefan Struve Out Of UFC 175 After Fainting In Locker Room

The saga of UFC heavyweight Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve took an unfortunate turn tonight when the towering fighter fainted in the locker room in preparation for his main card bout with Matt Mitrione. Struve has been forced out of the fight as a precautionary measure.

Ariel Helwani confirmed on Twitter that Struve was indeed out:

Struve was returning to action after over a year after it was found that he had a leak in one of his heart valves after his UFC on Fuel TV 8 loss to Mark Hunt.

UFC doctor Jeffrey Davidson was on hand to discuss the situation on the UFC 175 pay-per-view broadcast, noting that Struve can potentially return to fighting in the future:

“Stefan’s condition is very stable; Stefan will have to look into the future, he can fight another day if he would like to. Medically he’s going to do very well, we’re going to take a precaution tonight.”

Although it’s saddening to hear that Struve was out tonight, his medical diagnosis sounds positive at this point in time. We at LowKick MMA wish Struve the best, and we’ll keep you informed on his status as news arises.
