Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia Rumored To Headline UFC 190 In Brazil
Most of the talk surrounding the women’s division right now concerns dominant champion Ronda Rousey’s long-anticipated showdown with Invicta FC featherweight champ Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino, but if today’s (Thurs., March 19, 2015) rumors are true, ‘Rowdy’ will soon be heading into Brazil to take on a different challenge.
Brazilian outlets Globo and Tatame have both reported that Rousey is slated to headline UFC 190 against undefeated Bethe Correia, which takes place on August 1 from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The news was since confirmed by MMAFighting.com.
Correia has been high on Rousey’s hit list ever since she beat teammate Jessamyn Duke at UFC 172 before finishing off a second “Four Horsewoman” in Shayna Baszler at UFC 177. She’s talked a ton of trash about the dominant champion, and has Rousey more than motivated to go into Brazil and defend her title.
Looking as unstoppable as ever recently with three finish wins totaling a mere 96 seconds, Rousey told Jay Mohr that she wants to storm into Correia’s hometown and defeat her in order to clear her friends’ names.
“That’s what I want to do. I want to go and fight her in Brazil and beat her in her hometown. That would be the best way I could really feel like I’ve vindicated my friends, to go to her hometown and beat her in her hometown and be total Rocky IV on it.”
For her part, Correia is understandably taking an aggressive stance, noting that she won’t let Rousey disrespect her as she feels she did Miesha Tate.
“I beat her little friends in the United States, one of them in her hometown, so it’s a chance for Ronda to come try to avenge her losses. Ronda got pissed that I beat them in front of her.
“She said she wants to teach me a lesson in Brazil, that she’s going to put a finger in my face — and we all know which finger. But I’ll tell you one thing. She is dealing with a woman with attitude this time. I’m not Miesha Tate, who only laughed when she did that. If she comes with that, I will break her finger. I won’t let her do to me what she did to Miesha Tate. Don’t come to my country putting your finger in my face or you’re getting into trouble.”
UFC 190 could also reportedly feature the rumored Shogun Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira rematch, which was originally discussed for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil 4 Finale on June 27.
