Ronda Rousey: Free Nick Diaz! NAC Shouldn’t Even Test For Weed
UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared at the UFC 193 press conference earlier this morning (Wednesday September 16, 2015), in Melbourne, Australia. There to promote her upcoming title defense against boxing champion Holly Holm, ‘Rowdy’ fielded questions that have become all too familiar in recent times; What are your future plans and how many more fights do you have?
True to here recent responses, the undisputed 135-pound champ says she is simply not sure right now, but making babies could be on the agenda:
“I don’t know what I’ll be doing in a few years from now, I didn’t know where I would be a few years ago. It all depends on actual fight time, if Holly Holm and I have a five round war then I’ll have less time left in the sport. Maybe I’ll be trying (to break Anderson Silva‘s record) in a few years, or I might be making babies, who knows.””
The subject then moved to her PPV (pay-per-view) draw, and if Rousey believes the record for all-time UFC attendance will be broken at UFC 193:
“Yeah, we are coming here to break that record. A female led card too. I’m the highest paid fighter because I bring in the most money. They don’t pay me that much just to be nice. I’m the greatest fighter in the world, Holly is an intriguing challenge to me. I knew that our paths were going to cross at some point. Since day one I’ve been watching her, she is very impressive and I want to show the world why I am the best, and she is one more person I’m gonna prove myself against,”
The inevitable question about Nick Diaz was raised with UFC president Dana White, and ‘Rowdy’ chimed in to give her strong opinion on the matter:
“It’s unfair that Diaz got a five year suspension. I’m against them testing for weed at all, it’s not a PED, why don’t they test for all the other things while we are out there? It’s just politics, Nick is a really close friend of mine. One guy tests positive for steroids, when he could have really hurt someone out there, and he gets a slap on the wrist, I don’t think Marijuana should be tested for at all, it’s just not right.”
Wow, we know that most of the UFC roster is against the recent controversial ruling on Diaz, but it’s huge for a superstar like Ronda Rousey to give her point of view on this matter. It’s testament to both Diaz’s growing popularity, and also the perceived unfairness of the NAC’s somewhat emotional and brash ruling.
#FreeNickDiaz is sweeping the internet through all social media outlets, the petition is 20,000 strong, and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, undoubtedly the biggest star on the UFC payroll right now, is in the corner of Diaz. Will we see the ruling overturned in the near future?
