Jon Jones Fined $50K, 40 Hours Community Service For Media Day Brawl
Jon Jones fined $50,000 and given 40 hours of community service
The commission has spoken, and UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones got hit with a large fine and a working week of community service for his part in the illustrious UFC 178 media day brawl. In a promo for the now Cariaso vs Johnson headlined event, “Bones” and Daniel Cormier erupted in to a now infamous brawl.
The on stage antics were followed by a vicious ‘hot mic’ exchange, where “DC” threw accusations of being fake at Jones, and the champion responded by saying he would kill Cormier. Back to the case in point; the Nevada State Athletic Commission ruled that “Bones” was the guilty party, and the light-heavyweight kingpin responded via Twitter:
40 hours of community service in Vegas with a fight coming up is the only thing that really concerns me.

The fact that this needs to be completed before the fight is definitely going to have effect on my camp. I respect the commission though

I am excited I get to work with kids though that part is a blessing in disguise. I’ll give them my best

I’m not sure Jones really has a leg to stand on here, but it’s a fair point he raises about the community service impacting negatively on his UFC 182 fight camp for Cormier. That being said, had he not gone ape shit in front of the entire MMA community this wouldn’t be an issue right now. How do you feel about the NSAC ruling, and could they at least have postponed his punishment until after his next title defense?
The effects of Jones’ brawl with Cormier have effectively cost him million of dollars, as the light heavyweight champion confirmed that athletic apparel giant Nike has dropped him in the wake of the controversy:
Yes but I have absolutely zero animosity they’ve been great to me “@TMTJackson1: @JonnyBones is it true u got dumped by nike?”

The spectacle may increase pay-per-view (PPV) buys, but it’s going to be hard to replace a sponsor like Nike. “Bones” doesn’t seem to mind all that much, but will this announcement prevent him from ever becoming MMA’s biggest crossover star?
