John Dodson: Demetrious Johnson Sounds Like A Scared Little Pussycat

Following his fourth straight title defence against Ali Bagautinov this past weekend, UFC champion Demetrious Johnson said he’s open to having a rematch with John Dodson but he’s also looking for “new challenges” in the flyweight division.

“The Magician” believes the champ is trying to avoid having a second fight with him and says he sounds like “a scared little pussycat”:

“I heard the press conference, I heard him trying to duck and bob and weave and jive out of a fight with me,” Dodson told FOX Sports. “Then he wants to tell everybody he wants to fight everybody but me, telling everybody ‘ John Dodson’s a clown’ yet he sounded like a scared little pussycat trying to run away from me. Is he afraid of the big bad wolf?”

The TUF 14 winner is now 2-0 since his loss to the champion with both his wins being stoppages and ending in devastating fashion. The first of those wins came against Darell Montague in October, knocking him out in the very first round. Dodson followed that up by battering John Moraga just under three weeks ago.

The 29-year old is now 5-1 since winning The Ultimate Fighter, with his only loss coming in a close fight against Johnson. Considering his record, Dodson doesn’t know how “Mighty Mouse” can think he’s not worthy of a title shot.

“He doesn’t think I’m worthy as an opponent? He said he wanted to see him fight (Jussier) Formiga, who I leveled. They want to see him go blow for blow with Zach Makovsky, who won two fights in the UFC so far. I think I’ve been on a tear here with a 5-1 streak, and the only person that beat me was Demetrious. If he doesn’t want to fight me, put anybody else in front of me and I’ll go toe-to-toe and I’ll put them to sleep just like I should have done with him.”

Dodson is unquestionably the most suitable choice for the UFC to go with against Johnson next but he believes the champion wants nothing to do with him after already tasting his knockout power when they first fought last year.

In the second round of their fight back in January last year, Dodson dropped the champ twice and was almost able to to finish the fight. The Albuquerque native said he will put him to sleep next time around and that’s why Johnson’s ducking him.

“Of course (he’s ducking me). He knows I will put him to sleep this time,” Dodson said. “I’m in better shape, better conditioning, my strength is only getting better. He’s shown he has knockout power now putting out Joseph Benavidez , one of the hardest hitting guys in the division, congratulations. Why don’t you try to put me to sleep? I’m going to be just as fast as you, just as technical, but the only thing that’s different — I have more strength.”

Unless either man gets injured the UFC will most likely go with the rematch next; whether Johnson likes it or not. Do you think Dodson can do any better the second time round?
