Hector Lombard Says He Wants To Fight Michael Bisping
UFC welterweight Hector Lombard might just have the Christmas humbug regarding his 2014 career, having only fought once this year. After dancing around the idea of fighting Tyron Woodley, and “The Chosen One” turning it down, “Showeather” was eventually paired with returning Josh Burkman at UFC 182.
Talking to MMAFighting.com, Lombard says he is the most hated man in the UFC right now:
“I’m the most hated guy in the UFC, I don’t know why. That’s the way it’s always been. I’m not very happy (about fighting Josh Burkman) but what can I do?”
Perhaps the moniker of ‘most hated guy in the UFC’ is a little over the top? Lombard certainly had a sketchy start to his UFC career, after losing lacklustre decisions to Tim Boetsch and Yushin Okami at middleweight. “Lightning” looks renewed at welterweight though, as he has knocked out Nate Marquardt and manhandled Jake Shields since making the late-2103 drop to 170.
“Hopefully 2015 brings me a better year and I can be happy again,” Lombard said. “Hopefully good things are coming my way and I can be positive. I can finally get my hands on Michael Bisping, I definitely want to be busy in 2015 and I definitely want to be on the Australian card,” he said. “If I have to fight someone like Burkman again, I will fight. I want to be busy.”
“I’m happy I got a fight,” Lombard said. “I’m not complaining. I’m just gonna do my job on Jan. 3 and that’s it.”
Burkman isn’t exactly a bum, having crossed over from World Series Of Fighting with a 4-1 tally. He takes in to UFC 182 a 27-10 overall tally, including wins over Jon Fitch, Aaron Simpson, Gerald Harris and Jamie Yager. Obviously a heavy favorite, “Showeather” will really need to watch that he doesn’t look past “The People’s Warrior” at UFC 182.
As far as Hector Lombard vs Michael Bisping is concerned, that would only really make sense if it took place at welterweight for Lombard. A trip back to middleweight might prove to be a bad move for “Lightning”, as he is huge for 170 pounds and very fast.
