Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar 2 does have a nice ring to it, but Conor McGregor is still in the equation

Resurgent UFC featherweight contender Frankie Edgar really put a stamp on his UFC Fight Night 57 performance. Not only did he beat one of the top contenders in the stacked division, he got a record breaking finish in the process. After holding the UFC lightweight title by beating BJ Penn at UFC 112, “The Answer” could break another record should he also win the promotion’s featherweight strap. Talking with MMAJunkie.com, Edgar says he should be next in line for a shot at Jose Aldo:

“It should be me, based on my performance, based on what I’ve done in my career, it should be me. I’m here to stay. I’m coming. I’m not going to be an easy fight for anybody, I guarantee that. I don’t know if I’d be angry,(if Conor McGregor gets the next title shot)” he said. “I’d be disappointed, but I wouldn’t be a baby about it. What can I do? Just put my head down, go back in the gym and earn another shot. That’s all I can do.”

The talk predictably turned to surging UFC star Conor McGregor, as he is lined up to face Denis Siver in January. Although “The Notorious” has not beaten as many ranked fighters as other contenders, it’s a common consensus that he will be given the next shot with a win. Just ask Dana White. Edgar continues:

“I don’t know, man,” he said. “It’s not my job to make the fights or (give) my opinion on it. I don’t know who else was there for him to fight (other than Siver). It’s a tough featherweight matchup for him. I think everybody wants to see him fight a wrestler. There’s still some unknowns about him. But he’s been doing everything he’s supposed to when he’s in there with whoever he’s in there with.”

“Dennis isn’t an easy fight by any means, but it’s not the matchup that everybody want against a wrestler who can take him down and take him into deep water, but it is what it is.”

Arguably deserving of a spot on the P4P list once again, “The Answer” really boosted his stock at UFC Fight Night 57, but was it enough to get him another title shot. With McGregor vs Siver fast approaching, would anybody be interested in seeing Aldo vs Edgar 2?
