Frank Mir Returns Against “Bigfoot” At UFC 184, Tate Meets McMann At UFC 183
It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in action. He was outstruck 139-5 by Alistair Overeem at February’s UFC 169, suffering his fourth straight loss and starting the rumor mill about him possibly retiring.
However, this evening (November 12, 2014) news just broke on UFC Tonight that Mir will return to the Octagon to face former title challenger Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on the main card of February 28’s UFC 184 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
A top-level women’s bantamweight bout was also announced on the show, as Miesha Tate will face Sara McMann at January 31’s UFC 183 pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada:

Mir has been a UFC heavyweight mainstay for over 13 years now. Prior to his recent losing streak, he had won three straight fights and seven out of his last nine. He’ll look to rebound against “Bigfoot,” who needs a win himself.
The slugging Brazilian was last seen getting knocked out by Andrei Arlovski at September’s UFC Fight Night 51 after fighting to a classic draw with Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33, serving a nine-month suspension for a failed drug test afterwards.
UFC 184 features the long-awaited middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
As for the women’s bout, it seems like a smart choice given that Tate and McMann are both top-ranked fighters who have been finished by Ronda Rousey.
Tate was last seen picking apart the debuting Rin Nakai at UFC Fight Night 52 from Japan, her second straight win. McMann returned to the win column by edging Lauren Murphy via split decision at August’s UFC Fight Night 47.
UFC 183 is headlined by the long-awaited return of former champion Anderson Silva, who takes on Nick Diaz in a battle of pinpoint strikers.
