Conor McGregor’s Coach Predicts A One-Minute Knockout Of Dennis Siver
Recently No. 5-ranked featherweight Conor McGregor continued his war of words with the entire division by predicting a finish of Dennis Siver in under two minutes at January 18’s UFC Fight Night 59 from Boston, Massachusetts (quote transcribed by MMA Fighting):
“So January 18th, I feel I will stop Dennis Siver inside two minutes. I’ve ran through some scenarios, I cannot see him escaping the first two minutes. He is a seasoned veteran, he is a kickboxing expert, a Taekwondo expert, he is my most experienced competitor that I will ever have faced. But I feel that under two minutes it will take me to dispatch him, and again it will make way for the football stadium in Ireland.”
While McGregor’s prognostication may sound bold, it might not be all that unlikely of an outcome. “Notorious” has starched his last two opponents with ruthless efficiency, destroying both Diego Brandao and Dustin Poirier in the first round.
He’ll lock up his anticipated title shot at champion Jose Aldo’s belt if he can defeat Siver, which most are predicting he’ll do. It almost seems like a matter of not if, but when “Notorious” puts away, and his head coach John Kavanagh appeared in an interview with Independent.ie it’ll be even faster than McGregor’s two-minute goal:
“I don’t know, I think [McGregor’s] wrong to be honest. I can’t see it go past a minute.”
It appears the stakes have been made even higher for his star pupil, and the pressure to win will be more than immense. However, that’s probably just fine with McGregor, who knows he carries the weight of the Irish Nation and thrives in pressure situations.
The golden-tongued Irishman has won 12 consecutive bouts, obtaining 10 knockouts and one submission during an impressive streak that began in late 2010. He should be poised to fill Dublin’s 90,000 seat Croke Arena for what could the biggest fight of 2015 against Aldo.
Will he live up to his coach’s bold prediction, or will Siver somehow throw a wrench into their plans?
