Anderson Silva Reveals He Might Be Fighting Michael Bisping
Fans of former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be interested to hear this, ‘The Spider’ even gave a return date….
It’s been a rough couple years for Anderson Silva, first he lost the middleweight title in spectacular fashion against Chris Weidman at UFC 162, then he suffered one of the most horrific injuries at UFC 168. ”The All-American’ owned two straight wins over Silva, and we’d not see the former champ enter the octagon again for over a year.
Cue UFC 183, and Silva’s big comeback fight against Nick Diaz was less than stellar, then came the drug test controversy. ‘The Spider’ got busted for anabolic steroids, and was cast in a very bad light at the eventual NAC (Nevada Athletic Commission) hearing. Some would say he got off lightly with a one year ban, especially when you consider the five year sit that Diaz was served during his outrageous trial.
Stories of magical potions from Thailand and claims of ignorance to what he was ingesting were picked apart by the commission, and Silva’s stock certainly fell dramatically. It sounds as though ‘The Spider’ is ready to dust himself of now though, as he told media at a recent Fight Pass streamed Russian MMA event that he hopes to return in April next year:
“I think I fight in April, next year. I think I fight April –– in Brazil, in my city Curitiba, on the same card [as] Werdum.
“The people talk for my next opponent is, [Silva seemed to not be able to remember the name, saying uhm, uhm over and over again] I don’t remember the name, but I think Michael Bisping. I think, I don’t know, maybe Michael Bisping.”

Did Silva also just reveal that Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez 2 isn’t happening until April 2016? It definitely sounds that way, and Michael Bisping? Interesting. Seeing as Silva is now two fights removed from being champion, a TKO injury loss and a no-contest (originally decision win), title relevancy really is a long way ahead for the Brazilian striker.
On the other side of the coin, a win for ‘The Count’ over Silva could finally launch the long serving Brit in to the title shot that has eluded him for so many years. Equally a loss for Silva or Bisping would likely mark the end of their respective title aspirations.
