Alexander Gustafsson Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery In Sweden

After yesterday’s (Mon., Aug. 4, 2014) heated brawl between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and No. 1 contender Daniel Cormier, injured former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson has taken a backseat to all the media attention.

But “The Mauler,” who tore his right meniscus in training and opened the doorway for “DC” to step into a bad blood-fueled rivalry with Jones, is on the road to recovery. He just appeared on Instagram, posting a photo to declare his surgery a success with the following words:

“Done, just woke up! Never been more motivated my friends!”

Gustafsson famously took Jones to the limit at last September’s UFC 165 in Toronto, and then famously engaged in a back-and-forth war of words that ultimately lead to their anticipated rematch to be booked at September 27’s UFC 178.

His rivalry with the polarizing but dominant champ was set to be one of the most pivotal in the history of combat sports, but Jones’ UFC 178 media brawl with “DC” took things to an entirely new and never-before-seen level.

Regardless of what happens in that fight, however, Jones said that he wants to rematch Gustafsson next in order to take care of some unfinished business. Can “The Mauler” rebound strong enough to finally win the belt he feels is rightfully his?
