Dan Henderson was promised a title shot "months ago," has no interest in fighting Chael Sonnen

Light Heavyweight veteran Dan Henderson, who was last seen in action defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in November, confirms reports that he is, in fact, next in line to challenge for the Light Heavyweight title, and discusses a potential rematch with Middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. Henderson says that though he would be interested in a rematch with Silva, it is the only fight he wants at 185-pounds. (Interview courtesy of James Mills via MMAWeekly.com). Photo: Francis Specker

“That’s what they told me months ago. It’s just taken a while for (the UFC) to come out and publicly say it, but they said that there’s no other fight that makes sense other than the winner of (Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans). … I don’t want to wait too much longer, so (if the Jones-Evans winner is injured) I’d obviously, probably fight somebody else.

I don’t know. I don’t see (having to fight Chael Sonnen) being an issue. There’s so many other guys to fight. I don’t really want to fight at 185-pounds unless I’m fighting Anderson Silva. … (If I won the title) I’d want to defend it a couple times before retiring. My body feels good. I’m not ready to retire yet, but it would be nice to finish on top.”
