UFC Fight Night 67 Medical Suspensions: Thiago Alves Gets Six-Month Sit

Former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves succumbed to a brutalizing defeat at the hands of Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit in the main event of last weekend’s (Sat., May 30, 2015) UFC Fight Night 67 from Goiania, Brazil.

Not surprisingly, ‘The Pitbull’ earned a full six-month medical suspension for a broken nose that will most likely require surgery. Cage-side doctors were forced to stop the bout after the second round when it became clear that Alves’ nose was badly broken.

The rest of the medical suspension list for UFC Fight Night 67, which was released earlier today by the Brazilian Athletic Commission for MMA (CABMMA), only included one other full six-month term, as Tom Breese got a potential 180 days for left wrist and hand injuries suffered in his first round TKO stoppage over Luiz Dutra. Both Dutra and Alves can return to action sooner if medically cleared by a doctor.

Aside from the most significant terms, many of the fighters on the card were given longer suspensions than the mandatory 14 days that CABMMA hands out to competitors. Exact reasons for any terms less than the full six months are not disclosed.
