Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez II Rumored For Aldo vs. McGregor Co-Main Event
News broke last night that the UFC’s biggest bout of 2015 was back on when the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor featherweight title unification bout was re-confirmed for December 12’s UFC 194 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
No more of the potentially massive pay-per-view (PPV) card was revealed, but according to Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter on Twitter, the co-main event will be quite the blockbuster one.
It had been rumored that the third Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate women’s bantamweight championship fight would take place in the Aldo/McGregor co-main event, but UFC president Dana White confirmed yesterday they would indeed be taking place on different cards.
With that established, Botter put out the report that a heavyweight title rematch would be taking place directly before Aldo vs. McGregor, with the anticipated Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold middleweight title fight co-headlining Rousey vs. Tate III a month later in January:
McGregor/Aldo, Werdum Cain either 12/5 or 12/12 and then Rousey/Tate, Weidman/Rockhold Jan 2. All MGM.

It should be noted that nothing other than Aldo vs. McGregor has been made official, and the biggest news from this purported development could be the fact that a heavyweight title fight will take co-main event billing for the first time in the promotion’s history.
Werdum famously took Velasquez’s belt after the former champion returned from 20 months off at UFC 188 from Mexico City, Mexico. He had been rumored to face anyone from returning great Fedor Emelianenko to resurgent former champ Andrei Arlovski, but longtime champ Velasquez apparently may get the nod instead.
Weidman vs. Rockhold has been in the works since ‘The All-American’ champion put his long-standing feud with Vitor Belfort to bed in the co-main event of May 23’s UFC 187, but it’s apparently taking quite some time to get signed.
The 185-pound champ is reportedly aiming to fight before the end of the year but may find himself on the first card of 2016 instead. Either way, it appears that UFC fans will be treated to a veritable cornucopia of high-level UFC championship bouts at the end of 2015 and on into 2016.
