Hector Lombard requests drug screen prior to UFC debut

Hector Lombard has wasted no time in making headlines after signing with the UFC. After the former Bellator Middleweight champion immediately called out UFC champion and pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva last week, it was announced that he would be fighting the always-tough Brian Stann in his promotional debut this summer. The fight has the makings of a blockbuster match and will be a tough test for both Lombard and Stann. Hot off the heels of that announcement comes an unusual statement from Hector Lombard today, courtesy of Twitter.com:

Asking for a random drug test prior to a fight is definitely something we don’t see often. It appears that Lombard would like to clear the air before his first fight in the UFC, and avoid any of the hang-ups and allegations that we have seen following Alistair Overeem since his signing with the company. If there any questions about him using PEDs, Lombard would seemingly like to prove that is not true, but it is hard to predict the exact intentions of a statement like this.

Lombard is a heavily-muscled Middleweight who has knocked out everyone in his path as of late. It will be interesting to see if this will be actually arranged, and if so, what effect it will have on the start of Hector Lombard‘s UFC career, if any. While a strange way to start, at least Lombard brings an instance of a fighter wanting to show that he is against performance-enhancing drugs. Their use has plagued MMA recently, and more fighters need to speak out about them. Only time will tell if Lombard’s words will carry any weight concerning the issue.
