Report: Lyoto Machida vs. Dan Henderson Rematch Slated For April

Dan Henderson vs. Machida

Earlier this week it was reported that a pairing of light heavyweight legends “Suga” Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was being targeted for UFC on FOX 19 which is set for April 16, 2016.

That won’t be the only matchup between ageing veterans, however, as Combate (Via BloodyElbow) has reported that former champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida will face off with Dan “Hendo” Henderson on this same card in a rematch of their 2013 bout.

Machida was able to walk away with a split-decision victory at UFC 157 in the first meeting, but both combatants have now dropped to 185 pounds.

“The Dragon” has hit some extremely rough times as of late, losing three out of his last four bouts including two straight brutal stoppage losses at the hands of Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero. At 37 years of age, Machida will look to get back to his winning ways and start one last run at gold.

Henderson, on the other hand, has also lost three out of his last four fights, most recently dropping a knockout loss to controversial Brazilian Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort last November. Clearly past his prime at 45 years old, the former Olympian will look to prove that he still has some gas left in the tank.

A clash of between top lightweights Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov and Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson is also expected to take place on this card.
