Chad Mendes: I Can Beat Anyone, Aldo and McGregor Included

Chad Mendes

Chad Mendes is set to fight Frankie Edgar at UFC TUF 22 Finale in a featherweight bout and recently spoke with FOX Sports.com. During that interview, Mendes explained that while it might sound cocky, he feels that he does not see anywhere that Edgar is better than he.

“Honestly, not trying to sound cocky, but I don’t see anywhere that Frankie’s better than me,” Mendes said. “He’s good at getting out and getting in, fast without getting hit. He’s got good output with his hands. I feel like my wrestling’s just as good if not better. Obviously my striking, I feel like I have more power, I feel like I’m faster than he is and obviously wrestling and boxing mixing it up, I feel like we both do it well.”

“I don’t see anywhere that Frankie is completely better than me as far as the fight game goes.”

Mendes would make a bold claim by saying that he can beat anyone in the featherweight division, which includes Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. Ironically, Mendes has fought both Aldo and McGregor before and lost. Mendes lost to Aldo twice, once by first round KO at UFC 142 and then at UFC 179 by unanimous decision. Mendes lost to McGregor at UFC 189 by second round TKO. All three were title bouts.

“I know I can beat both of those guys,” Mendes said about Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. “I feel like I can beat anyone in the division if I’m there and I’m ready for it.

“Of course, you’ve got to have just a little bit of luck on your side but if everything falls into place, that title is mine.”

TUF 22 Finale takes place on Friday, December 11th in Las Vegas at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan. The main card will on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
