Stephan Bonnar Signs With Bellator, Calls Out ‘Boring’ Tito Ortiz

UFC light-heavyweight veteran Stephen Bonnar retired in 2012, in a somewhat controversial end to a storied career. After his three-fight win streak was snapped in spectacular fashion by Anderson Silva, the Ultimate Fighter 1 runner up was popped for the anabolic steroid drostanolone. After some procrastination, “The American Psycho” called it quits.

Forrest Griffin’s retirement also supported the common opinion that it was time for the new generation of fighters to shine, but it looks like Bonnar isn’t quite done yet. Indeed, “Psycho” has signed for Bellator MMA, and is looking to face fellow UFC vet Tito Ortiz.Check out what Bonnar said on his signing to BMMA:

“I want everyone to know I’m coming out of retirement because it’s time to free the MMA world of the virus that’s known as Tito Ortiz,” Bonnar said in a statement provided by Bellator. “We’ve been suffering through his boring fights for too many years, and it’s about time that someone beats it out of him once and for all.”

Well, it looks like Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier may have competition for feud of the year, or not. Whatever the case, Bellator is still not quite getting the point with signing new talent. Bonnar was never truly title material while fighting under the Zuffa banner, and has been inactive and irrelevant for two years now.

So, how about Bonnar vs Ortiz? To me, it looks like two over-the-hill retired fighters, looking for a couple decent pay days. I could be wrong, maybe fighting is just in their blood and they can’t quit yet. But, that being said, will any of you actually tune in to watch a (likely) headlining fight between Bonnar and Ortiz?
