With no training camp Ilir Latifi realizes opportunity, still believes in himself

“Just imagine yourself, making your UFC debut, main event, in your city, against a top 10 ranked guy. Has anyone done that before?”

No, no they haven’t, and truer words have never been spoken by a man who must be on top of the world with the opportunity he’s been given. Latifi showed up at the open workouts calm and cerebral, sharing and interesting point of view and wise sometimes humble thoughts like the one above.

Making it quite obvious that the man know’s how truly rare and special this moment is for him. Knowing full well what this could mean for his career. Latifi sat down with MMA Viking to answer a few questions regarding the upcoming bout.

I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning to like this guy, hopefully he can put on a good fight for all the fans and entertain his way on to the UFC roster.

He seems real confident and aware. For a once in a lifetime shot, who knows? Maybe a once in a lifetime outcome! Looking forward to this fight even though the opponent has changed…

I must admit I'm anxious to see what he can do now as well

The best part of this interview is Latifi's comment about headlining a card as a UFC debutant…Who the hell does that ? amazing opportunity.

I have Swedish family, I'm currently ten minutes (by car) from where the fight will take place. I've trained here, these guys live naturally fit and healthy lives, they are brought up eating clean healthy food and drink the worlds cleanest water. The average Swedish person trains twice per week… These young Swedish MMA fighters are training five times a week, the amount of clubs over here is ridiculous.

I don't know this guy, but by all accounts he's a strong fighter and will do well.

Ps, the last time the UFC was in Stockholm a friend of mine who sets up the gigs at the Globe was putting up the cage etc… He told me that he met a really nice chap called George, it turned out he meant GSP… My friend was shocked to learn he was such a big name because he was such an open, nice and normal guy – I thought that was pretty cool.

Anyhow, if anyone is going the fight and needs advice on where to go or what to do over the coming weekend, send me a mail and I'll see if I can help you out.

I'm still in awe how they were unable to get another "known" fighter to replace AG. Instead they get his training partner? WTF??
