UFC on Fox 11 Prelims Results: Khabib Nurmagomedov Wins Unanimous Decision Over Rafael dos Anjos
UFC on Fox 11 is underway and the preliminary sections are in the books. The night has started off well, with heavyweight Derrick Lewis picking up an impressive first round g’n’p TKO against an overmatched Jack May. The second ‘Fight Pass’ bout was a featherweight tilt between Mirsad Bektic and Chas ‘The Scrapper’ Skelly; after nearly being ko’d by two illegal knees, Bektic battled back well to take home the majority decision win.
Lastly was Dustin Ortiz vs. Ray Borg at flyweight, and the lighter division was represented well with a great back-and-forth scrap. Ortiz took home the split decision after three rounds of action. On to the Fox Sports 1 prelims, and fan-favorite Jordan Mein returns to face Hernani Perpeuo (?) in a welterweight affair. The Canadian ‘Young Gun’ didn’t look stellar in his return from injury, but did enough for the split decision.
Middleweights Caio Magalhaes and Luke Zachrich went at it, and the Brazilian looked very sharp as he dispatched Zachrich with a big body shot. ‘Hellboy’ followed with ground and pound for the TKO. Featherweights Estevan Payan and Alex White were up next, and White made short work a dominant knockout win. Jorge Masvidal and Pat Healy had unfinished business, and settled it with a very gritty three round showing; Masvidal taking the judge’s nod.
The long-awaited return of Thiago Alves was a good one for the fans, as he and Seth Baczynski put on a great display of heart. It was a three round slugfest that ended with Alves taking the decision. Last but not least was Khabib Nurmagomedov vs, Rafael dos Anjos at lightweight, and this was an easy fight to call. A close first round, followed by a second round that went Khabib’s way, and the third was all ‘Eagle’. Nurmagomedov takes the unanimous decision.
