UFC on FOX 10: Road to the Octagon
UFC on FOX 10 airs live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, this coming Saturday night. The card bodes well for being an entertaining night of fights and features eleven matches across the bantam, feather, light and heavyweight divisions.
In lead-up to the event, the UFC has released its “Road to the Octagon” preview of the card and a showcase of the six opponents that will be participating in the win, show and place slots of the night’s sort; Benson Henderson , Josh Thomson, Gabriel Gonzaga , Stipe Miocic, Donald Cerrone and Adriano Martins.
The Henderson / Thomson fight headlines the night’s line-up and will, in all likelihood, determine the next lightweight title contender. As such, both fighters are motivated and ready to fight. For his part, the number one ranked Henderson thinks he’s the better fighter everywhere and conversely, the number four ranked Thomson believes he has what it takes to beat Henderson and claim the title shot.
Preceding the main will be a heavyweight bout between Stipe Miocic and Gabriel Gonzaga. It’ pits the number eight fighter in the division (Miocic) against the number twelve (Gonzaga) and in a fight that elevates Gonzaga to top-ten status with a win, and reaffirms him as a force to be reckoned with within the division, while a victory for Miocic places him at title contention’s door.
The show fight is a lightweight match between number eight ranked Donald Cerrone and the unranked Adriano Martins. Cerrone has been hit-and-miss over his last number of fights and hasn’t won two in a row since August of 2012. He’ll be looking to start a win streak on Saturday night and of late, Cerrone appears to be highly motivated, financially speaking, to take home wins and bonuses. As this is the case, look for Donald to come out quick and hard, looking for the win. Across from him will be the equally motivated Martins, who will be making his second appearance in the promotion and has a heck of an opportunity on Saturday night, to vault onto the UFC’s top-ten rankings list for the 155 pound class. As Cerrone is ranked number eight, a win for Martins will give him ‘The Cowboy’s’ spot and significantly raise his UFC profile.
As always, the Road to the Octagon gives fans some great insight into how the fighters are training, feeling and looking going into the night. From what fans can see in this installment of ‘RTTO’, all six fighters look to in great shape and ready to go. As this is the case, Saturday night should make for a great night of mixed martial arts entertainment.
Here’s the show.
